A 21st Century Christmas Carol

By: Lori M. Myers

Age Level: All Ages
Cast: 10F, 6M, 8 M or F, doubling possible, extras optional
Time: About 40 minutes, 1 act

A modern twist on Dickens’ classic with a female lead role. Greedy old spinster Eleanor Scrooge makes her way through life barking orders at her gift shop employees. She wants them to work on Christmas, even though the mall is closed! Then she’s visited by the ghost of her old boss, Mr. Marley, and a parade of zany spirits who materialize from cheesy collectible figurines. Past loves the ’50s and takes Eleanor dancing at a party from her past. Present arrives to say Past is history and takes Eleanor to the Hatchett family Christmas dinner. It’s like watching a sitcom. But Pa Hatchett has a message of forgiveness for Eleanor, and it makes her think. When Future takes her to her own funeral, her change of heart is complete. She even forgives Tiny Tim’s fake limp. Lots of funny lines with contemporary references and crazy characters. Easy to stage with one (double) set.
