A Mixed-Up Fairy Tale

By: Susanna Hargreaves

Age Level: Middle Grades to High School
Cast: 11F, 15M, 10 optional (doubling possible)
Time: 20 minutes

Lightning! A terrible gust of wind flings open the door. All of the story pages that Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm were writing fly apart. When reassembled, the classic fairy tale characters become part of one mixed up fairy tale. Cinderella’s prince asks Rapunzel to let down her hair. The seven dwarfs don’t know if they’re working for the three bears, the three pigs, or Hansel and Gretel. Imagine the Fairy Godmother going to the ball with two witches. This play has as many roles as you could possibly need with room for lots of doubling. Everyone has a ball dancing at the Ball. The biggest fun of the play is to see if the audience can sort it all out while they’re laughing.
